The Global Data Conference, organized by Officine Dati and the Information Society Law Center of the University of Milan, aims to become a benchmark in the scientific and public outreach landscape related to digital transformation, data protection, and the development of technological awareness in Italy. Hopefully, the guidelines outlined in this document may serve as a resource and a reference point for advancing the government’s agenda on these topics.
The Position Paper is to be understood as a collective policy-drafting exercise resulting from a public forum made up of institutional representatives, researchers and university professors, as well as professionals and representatives of major technology companies.
The document is structured as follows:
- The first section sets out the features and the rules of engagement of the Global Data Conference 2023 and introduces the two organizing bodies, the Officine Dati Association and the Information Society Law Center of the University of Milan.
- This is followed by summaries of the outputs and analyses produced by the individual working groups. The topics addressed by the groups were as follows:
EU Digital Strategy – Working Group 1, coordinated by Professor Pierluigi Perri;
Role and Powers of National Independent Authorities – Working Group 2, coordinated by lawyer Rosario Imperiali d’Afflitto;
Vulnerable Subjects and the Effectiveness of Protections – Working Group 3, coordinated by Professor Giovanni Ziccardi;
Data Monetization – Working Group 4, coordinated by lawyer Anna Cataleta.
Finally, as an attachment, the results of the preliminary survey supporting the work are presented.
Officine Dati and the Information Society Law Center thank all those who contributed to the creation of the Position Paper.
